Nick Turvey @ The Print Room

Here's just a little catch up with what has been going on recently.....
The new gallery space is nearly opened and is looking FABULOUS and BIG! We are very excited about it and extremely happy that the first person to exhibit there will be Nick Turvey, a highly talented sculptor and recent winner of the Brian Mercer stonecarving award (http://www.nickturvey.com/index.html) The exhibition will be running concurrently with Judgement Day so do pop in to see it on your way down to see the show!

Judgement Day

Everythings hotting up at The Print Room (literally - as winter is upon us and the radiators are on full, we are quietly sweltering). We have just started rehearsals for Judgement Day, which is a new version of Ibsen's When We Dead Awaken written by [thereallyratherbrilliant] Mike Poulton. It's an exciting new project and we feel lucky to have James Dacre directing, fresh from his Olivier award win for The Mountaintop. So its back to biscuit breaks and endless coffee and tea which is a relief really. Michael Pennington and Penny Downie are among those who have been shivering through the doors for rehearsals....

In other news the dogs are having acupuncture therapy and the building opposite is shaping up very quickly. Our chief handyman, Roger, is working his socks off turning the building into an exciting new space where we will move our main office. It comes with a rehearsal space, balcony and a wine celler. Naturally.

Of Pinter and Print Room antics

Well, a LOT has been going on at The Print Room recently. Jeff James' Pinter double-bill, One For The Road/Victoria Station, has now come to an end. It was so lovely having the cast and creative team here milling about; now the office feels quite empty without them! There’s definitely less of an endless supply of tea and biscuits! However, even though Molesley has been surprising us with his cowardly, flirtatious ways it’s some relief to still see Kevin Doyle every Sunday in Downton! One For The Road/Victoria Station has now moved on to the Young Vic showing from Thursday 6 October until Saturday 15 October.
Next at The Print Room we have Harold Pinter in Cuba, an evening of rehearsed readings from the plays, poems and prose of Harold Pinter on Sunday 16 October at 7:00pm. This is a very special event performed to commemorate Harold’s solidarity with Cuba which, after this preview, will be presented at the Fourteenth International Havana Theatre Festival in Cuba at the end of October. There is a stellar cast including Roger Lloyd-Pack, Trigger from Only Fools and Horses(!!), Susie Wooldridge, previously seen here in Snake In The Grass, and Andy De La Tour from Notting Hill and The Young Ones, to name but a few.  As this will be the only chance to see a preview of their presentation in London grab a ticket while you can, either by ringing our box office on 020 7221 6036 or online at http://www.ticketweb.co.uk/user/?region=gb_london&query=detail&event=471473&interface=. They are priced at £10 each. It will be an amazing evening and one not to miss!

Rehearsals for One For The Road/Victoria Station, by Pinter. Directed by Jeff James, produced by Veronica Humphris and Emily Vaughan-Barratt

Here are some photos of the cast and crew in rehearsal. The previews are now well underway. Book your tickets for the show now to see the finished and polished production. The cast includes the terrifying and brilliant Kevin Doyle, the hilarious and haunting Keith Dunphy and the beautiful and tragic Anna Hewson (All photographs are (c) of Sheila Burnett). The rehearsal process was, needless to say, intense considering the subject matter of One For The Road; a short play by Pinter exploring the horrors of torture and extreme interrogation. It has been so interesting to see the development of the piece. It has changed so much, even from the dress rehearsal to opening night. Bolstered by copious tea and coffee the company have created an exciting piece of Pinter.

Early Days

As of last Monday I started work as an intern at The Print Room. The Print Room is so called because until October last year it was an old 50s printing house full of old obsolete printing presses and machinery in a derelict building just round the corner from Chepstow Road and a stones throw from Portobello market. In 2008 Anda Winters and Lucy Bailey founded The Print Room. As I walked in I realised that this is a theatre unlike many others. The atmosphere is so friendly and relaxed, everyone involved is here because they love what they do and that translates immediately.  So here I am. My first task. Blogging for you about what The Print Room is up to and what’s going on behind the gilded gate of 34 Hereford Road. It’s a new experience for me to be blogging so you may have to bear with me a little bit until I find my bloglegs (blegs??). It’s fantastic to be part of this hugely creative team and to see all the hard work that’s going in to providing the most interesting and entertaining shows this side of Bayswater.
Currently at The Print Room technical rehearsals are underway for our exciting Pinter double bill of One For The Road and Victoria Station and tomorrow I will be interviewing the cast for an inside scoop about the production.
Tickets are selling fast and if you would like to book some please go to http://www.ticketweb.co.uk/user/?region=gb_london&query=schedule&venue=printroom or call us on 020 7221 6036. Alternatively drop in to see us, have a natter and find out what’s coming next at The Print Room!
